Worn tyres can reduce grip on the road resulting in longer stopping distances. The law states that the tread on your tyres cannot be less than 1.6mm (to be safe, we recommend tyre replacement at 3mm). You could be liable to a fine of up to £2,500 plus three penalty points per tyre if your tyres are found to be illegal.
