Featuring a turbocharged 2.0- litre petrol engine that produces 302bhp reaches 0-62mph in 5.2 seconds the Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 can now be ordered for delivery with the first deliveries been made in summer 2020. It has the same 2.0-litre petrol engine as the A 35 hatchback and A 35 Saloon and also features the Mercedes’ 4MATIC four-wheel-drive system.
Following the template set by the Mercedes-AMG A35, the fast GLB has a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with 302bhp controlled by an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox with the Mercedes’ 4MATIC four-wheel-drive system. However, the GLB’s larger stature means that it’s not quite a fast as the A 35 hatchback, which only takes 4.7 seconds compared to 5.2.
Its sportiness is standout by a racy AMG body kit, 20-inch alloy wheels and a more robust and noticeable AMG-specific front grille, just like the AMG A35. Around the back, you will find bigger exhausts and a new diffuser, and more flared wheel arches than you see on the standard model.
Offering more power and a range of other enhancements compared to the standard GLB, it features larger AMG0spec brakes, with slightly heavier steering and adaptive suspension for improved cornering.
There are six different metallic paint colours available for the GLB 35, costing £595 each. You can also opt for a pair of special colours; ‘Patagonia Red’ metallic costing £795 and ‘Mountain Grey Magno’ priced at £1,795.
The GLB 35 has being marked out as the top of the range, with features like a flat-bottomed AMG steering wheel with gearshift paddles and a host of aluminium accents. The front seats are electrically adjustable, sportier and more supportive, and include trim in either black or two-tone leather. There is also a premium Burmester stereo system and ambient interior lighting which feature 64 different colour options.
There are two large infotainment screens powered by Mercedes’ MBUX system included in the GLB 35. It includes custom menus that are special to the AMG and has the capability for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity as well as the standard equipment you’d expect on a top model like a reversing camera, climate control and keyless go.
Fitted with the Mercedes’ connected services, including a smartphone app that unlocks the car, and locates where it’s parked, the top of the range GLB 35 also includes a complimentary 12-month subscription to the TIDAL music streaming service for all your music needs.
The Mercedes GLB 35 comes with Driving Assistance as standard, which includes rear cross-traffic monitoring, brake assist, active lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring and evasive steering assist to help the driver remain safe and avoid unseen obstacles.
One difference between the GLB 35 and the standard GLB is the seating, where the GLB comes with seven seats as standard, the GLB 35 will be a five-seater. You can choose the third row of seats from the options list, making it adaptable to suit your requirements, this is alongside a range of extras including electronic adaptive suspension.
The GLB 35 is going to remain the fastest model in the range, there isn’t going to be an upgrade to a GLB 45 unlike the Mercedes A-Class.
