Second Generation Mercedes GLE Coupe Now Available

The New Mercedes GLE Coupe is a stylish variant of the original GLE, trading some practicality for a sportier shape and improved design. There’s still plenty of room for luggage to make it more than practical for most needs thanks to its larger size, and you’re also getting a couple of upgrades to make it stand out from its predecessor.

What’s new with the Mercedes GLE Coupe?

The GLE Coupe is slightly larger with around 39mm more length and 7mm width. There’s also 20mm more distance between the front and rear wheels. These don’t necessarily change much about the GLE Coupe, but one practical difference is the lower boot lip. This makes loading luggage into the vehicle a tad bit easier than before.

While the styling of the vehicle is largely the same, there are a couple of key differences to notice. For instance, the windscreen is more steeply raked to give it a sporty look, while the swooping shape in the rear has been redesigned for a more streamlined look. There are also redesigned brake light clusters and bumpers to differentiate it from the older model. It comes with equipment that is standard to the AMG Line Premium Plus such as 22-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof and a driver assistance package. The seats are Artico man-made leather which is standard across the range.

The two 12.3-inch screens from the GLE are also present in the GLE Coupe. The infotainment system is complete with the “Hey Mercedes” voice control function and you’ll get one touchscreen and another screen to act as the instrument cluster.

The petrol engine available is the same as the Mercedes-AMG GLE Coupe 53. It’s a mild-hybrid system that employs a turbocharged 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder petrol engine. It’s capable of 429bhp and 384lb ft in combination with an integrated starter motor that provides an extra 21bhp and 184lb ft during acceleration. This gives it a 0 to 62mph time of 5.3 seconds and a top speed of 155mph.

Since the GLE Coupe is designed for performance in mind, it’s not the most fuel-efficient car available. Much like the Mercedes-AMG GLE Coupe 53, the new GLE Coupe can shut off the engine while coasting to conserve fuel. However, this doesn’t increase the fuel efficiency by much, managing around 30.4mpg if you’re conservative with your fuel. This makes it relatively expensive to run and isn’t recommended unless you’re after performance and an outstanding ride.
